Thimpu/Xinhua: A four-year old child and her 34-year old mother are the latest to be diagnosed with COVID-19 in Bhutan as of Saturday.

The child and her mother are primary contacts of a 25-year old man who tested positive for COVID-19 on August 12 from Phuentsholing town, reported the Health Ministry. He has no known recent travel history and works at the mini dry port under Regional Revenue and Customs Office.

The ministry said that they were tested while in a quarantine facility at Phuentsholing. They were quarantined since August 12 along with hundreds of other people who have come in contact with the 25-year old man.

Three new positive COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday. This was following 12 positive cases reported on August 13 from Phuentsholing town, the Health Ministry stated. All 16 of the adults have worked at the mini dry port in Phuentsholing town.

With growing positive cases and concern of more community spread, the government has declared Phuentsholing sub-district as the zed zone.

As of Friday, the Ministry has traced 442 contacts of 12 positive cases from Phuentsholing that was reported on August 13, and 188 contacts of three positive cases reported on August 14th. The contact tracing is still on going, as per the Health Ministry's statement.

Bhutan's total positive COVID-19 cases now stand at 133, of which 102 were declared recovered and 31 listed as active cases with zero death.
