Uruguay beat Salah-less Egypt 1-0 in World Cup

Yekaterinburg, June 15 (IBNS): Without  Mohamed Salah, Egypt looked a powerless opponent as Uruguay snatched a 1-0 win in their first match of the World Cup on Friday.

At a moment when it was looking that Egypt might escape with a point, Uruguay scored the lone goal of the match to win full point.

Uruguay’s Jose Gimenez scored in the 89th minute of the match to grab victory for the country.

Jose Gimenez headed powerfully in the net to manage a late goal which made all the differences in the match.

Luis Suarez, who is one of the stars to feature for Uruguay,  had missed four chances as Uruguay looked much better on the ground in comparison to their opponent.

Salah remained unused in the match as he is still recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in last month's Champions League final.

The Egyptian was in touch in recent times as he had scored 44 times for Liverpool this season.

After this result, Russia, who had thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the opening match, remained in the top spot of the Group A.

Egypt will next play Russia on Tuesday.

Uruguay will face  Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
