Sourav Ganguly expresses sadness over Chuni Goswami's demise

Kolkata/UNI: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly is saddened at the demise of India's first football superstar Chuni Goswami.

Cricket Association of Bengal also has mourned the death of living legend of India's soccer era as condolence messages still pour in from sports personality and sports federations.

Former India captain Subimal Goswami, who was fondly referred to as Chuni Goswami by his

vast legion of fans, died on Thursday afternoon at the age of 82.

In recent times, both in the movie world and in sporting arena, India witnessed the demise of some stalwarts.

The end of journey of PK Banerjee, one of the finest footballers in Asia, in recent month and then untimely end of talented actor Irrfan Khan and once Bollywood heartthrob Rishi Kapoor this week cast a pal of gloom across India.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly while expressing his sadness at the passing away of the two actors, commented again at the end of India's first super star in football Chuni Goswami, who had been idol to almost all soccer crazy fans in Bengal.

Incidentally Chuni da was also one of the idols of Ganguly, who also played good football at his prime time.

" Just saddened with so many bad news of dear people," Gagnuly wrote on his Twitter post.

" The game loses another hero.. RIP Chuni da...An all time great of the game ..Life settles all scores at the end ..You have still won it," Sourav Ganguly said.

" It is with great grief that we received the news of the demise of Legend Chuni Goswami. This is actually a Monumental Loss for the Sporting Fraternity," CAB secretary Snehashis Ganguly, elder bother of Ganguly, said in another condolence message.

" He would always be remembered as one of top most sporting heroes the country has ever produced. His contribution to football would be cherished forever. In the same vein, he was not only the Captain of Bengal Cricket Team but had also received the Kartick Bose Lifetime

Achievement Award of The Cricket Association of Bengal in 2011-12 for his Cricketing Excellence," the senior Ganguly said.

The flag of the CAB at Eden Gardens was flying half mast to pay respect to Chuni Goswami.

CAB president Avishek Dalmiya said " It is extremely difficult to come to terms with the fact that Chuni Goswami is no more. He is one of the greatest footballers of all time."
