Saw the same with Gavaskar-Kapil Dev and Ganguly-Tendulkar: Arun Dhumal on Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma debate

The fans of two great cricketers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are often found busy in online rivalry proving their points on who has an edge over the other.

Though media reports too occasionally talked about the coldness in recent terms between the two, the inside picture perhaps is much different and positive.

Sharing his view on the Virat-Rohit debate, Indian cricket board (BCCI) treasurer Arun Dhumal said, "We never think about it. It is the passion of fans that drives them and this debate. When you are attached to an emotion, then you tend to say all that.

"And social media is a platform where you can talk about anything. They speak their heart out because there are no restrictions. That is why people think it persists."

"We saw the same with Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, or later between Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. On social media, matters amplify to an extent that people believe all this is true," he said in a YouTube channel.

Very recently, Rohit was also seen extremely vocal in supporting Virat, whose place in the playing eleven was also question by some cricket greats owing to his lean patch.

The Indian captain had said, "If you talk about form, it goes up and down for everyone. The quality of a player never goes down and we should remember that. When you make certain comments, you should always remember that the quality of a player does not go down. We back that quality. It has happened with me, it has happened with XYZ, it has happened with everyone, it is nothing new.

"When some player has done so well consistently for so long, that can't be written off in one or two series or one or two years. It takes people time to understand it completely, but those who are running the team know the importance of that quality."

After Ganguly-Tendulkar and Shikhar Dhawan-Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is the most successful batting pair India have ever produced.
