SAI Netaji Subhas Eastern Centre to improve facilities and infrastructure

Kolkata/IBNS: Netaji Subhas Eastern Centre (NSEC) under the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has undertaken various projects to improve the facilities and infrastructure at this centre, SAI NSEC Director Vineet Kumar informed here on Saturday.

Speaking on the sidelines after a 15-km cycle rally organised by the centre, Kumar said the projects include floodlighting arrangements at different event venues in the centre and installation of a large water treatment plant which would benefit the players, coaches and officials here in a big way.

The NSEC is also planning to start a women’s football team after spotting players from the grass-root level, Kumar said.

At present, NSEC is acting as Centre of excellence for five sports disciplines which include athletics, archery, gymnastics, table tennis and hockey (only women).

The NSEC organized the cycle rally as its part of celebrations for the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Government of India initiative Ajadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and FIT India programme where about one hundred participants took part in presence of Olympians Jyotirmoyee Sikdar (athletics), Dola Banerjee (archery), Sutirtha Mukherjee (table tennis) and India international footballers Atanu Bhattacharjee and Sangram Mukherjee.

IG (BSF) Eastern Command D K Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police Novebdra Singh Paul and Sunil Kumar Yadav, Chief General Manager of Canara Bank Sandeep J Gaware, General Manager of Union Bank of India Amarendra Kumar and Director of Suraksha Diagnostic Dr Somnath Chatterjee were also present on the occasion.

Earlier before the inauguration of the rally  NSEM Director Vineet Kumar felicitated the sports personalities and other dignitaries present at the function.
