Melbourne, Dec 26 (IBNS): The Indian top order batting has placed the visitors in the driver's seat in the boxing day Test match at Melbourne Cricket Ground here on Wednesday.

Winning the toss in the third Test match, Indian skipper Virat Kohli had elected to bat first.

India finished the first day's play at 215/2.

Hanuma Vihari and debutant Mayank Agarwal, the new opening pair, gave India a solid start by putting 40 in the first-wicket partnership.

Though Vihari (8) was dismissed by Pat Cummins, Mayank continued his batting with Pujara.

Just before tea, Mayank was dismissed at 76 and his wicket was also clinched by Cummins.

Post-tea, Pujara and Kohli took the innings forward.

While Pujara remained unbeaten at 68 off 200 balls, the skipper played an aggressive knock of not out 47.

The four-match Test series is levelled 1-1.
