Mamata Banerjee, Sourav Ganguly condole death of former Indian cricketer Gopal Bose

Kolkata, Aug 26 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and ex-Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Sunday mourned the death of former Indian cricketer Gopal Bose.

"Saddened at the passing away of Gopal Bose, former India cricketer, shining star of Bengal cricket for many years and captain. My condolences to his family, admirers and friends in the sports fraternity," Banerjee tweeted.

International Cricket Council (ICC) also condoled the death of the cricketer and posted: "Gopal Bose, the former Bengal opener and captain, passed away on Sunday, 26 August, aged 71. He was part of India's squad for the England tour in 1974, and featured in one one-day international – his only appearance for India – at The Oval."

Ex-Indian captain Sourav Ganguly condoled the death of the cricketer and posted: "Lost a very dear person today ..luckily he was with his entire family in Birmingham ..will miss him ..may his soul rest in peace."

Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta said he felt 'shattered' after hearing about the death of Gopal Bose.

"Shattered to hear about the demise of Gopal Bose, loved discussing cricket with him. Difficult to find a better student and a teacher of the game. You will be missed sir ," deep tweeted.

India's former ODI cricketer Gopal Bose died of a massive cardiac arrest in London early Sunday, reports said.

Bose, who played for India in only one ODI at Oval against England in 1974, was 71.

Former right-handed Ranji player Gopal Bose, along with his wife, had been on a brief visit to his son Arijit in London, had felt chest pain and was admitted to a hospital there.

He reportedly died of massive cardiac arrest early Sunday(08 30 hrs IST).
