Buenos Aires, Jun 24 (IBNS): Argentine soccer captain and FC Barcelona strongman Lionel Messi turned a year older as he celebrated his 29th birthday on Friday.

Born in 1987 to Jorge, a steel factory manager and his wife Celia, Messi started off as a prodigy.

He is known for his amazing skills with the ball, often scoring goals from difficult positions.

Playing for Barcelona, he has scored a total of 453 goals for the club.

Though he has not quite emulated his success with his national side, Messi has managed to net 55 goals for Argentina.
