Rajkot, Oct 6 (IBNS): Riding on Kuldeep Yadav's magnificent five-wicket performance, India defeated West Indies by an innings and 272 runs in the first Test match of the series here on Saturday.

After bowling out West Indies for 181 runs in the first innings, Indian bowlers wrapped up the opposition second innings at 196 runs.

The West Indies batsmen looked equally hopeless in the second innings like their first.

Apart from Kieran Powell  (83), West Indies batsmen performed poorly in the second innings.

None of the Caribbean batsmen could match the strength of the Indian attack which was led by Yadav.

Powell delayed the disaster with his powerful knock as he smashed eight boundaries and four sixes in his knock.

Apart from Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets while R Ashwin succeeded in picking up two wickets.
