Kolkata: Lake Club Oarsmen Pratik and Akshay Chavan win at All India Inter University Rowing Championship

Kolkata/IBNS: Kolkata oarsmen and rowing members of city-based Lake Club Pratik Gupta and Akshay Chavan added more feathers to their caps when they made a 1-2 podium finish in 2000 metre singles scull at the All India Inter University Rowing Championship which concluded at Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh, on Sunday.

Twenty-four-year-old Pratik, who represented India for the rowing event at the World University Games held in Dusseldorf, Germany last year, excelled further at this championship winning another gold in the quadruple scull event.

Coached by Lake Club Captain of Boats Sudip Naha, Pratik and Akshay earlier made their mark also at the last Senior National Rowing Championship held at Pune during January last by bagging Bronze in Men’s Doubles scull event which happened to be the only medal won by West Bengal in this championship during last ten years.

Commenting on their victories, Pratik thanked their coach Sudip Naha for his able guidance and informed them that their next target is to represent the country at the various international events.
