Indian selectors announce squad for first three Test against England, Rishabh Pant added

London, July 18 (IBNS): Indian selectors on Wednesday picked up the squad for the first three Test against England and young wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has been added to it.

The Indian team is also closely monitoring swing bowler Bhuvneswar Kumar's back injury.

On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee met in Leeds to choose the Test squad which is to be led by Virat Kohli while Ajinkya Rahane was named as his deputy.

Amitabh Chaudhary, the acting secretary of the BCCI, in a statement said,  "Bhuvneshwar aggravated a lower back condition in the third ODI against England. His condition is being assessed by the BCCI medical team and a call on his inclusion in the Test squad will be made soon."

Bhuvneshwar, however, doesn't feature in the 18-member list.

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who too is recovering from an injury has also been named in the squad but would be available for selection from the second Test match from Aug 9.

Test team regulars Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were picked and Kuldeep Yadav was the third spinner in the list.

Mumbai bowler Shardul Thakur has also been named as a back-up in the 18-member list.

Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Bumrah are the remaining fast bowlers in the team.

Tests specialists Murali Vijay, Cheteswar Pujara and triple centurion Karun Nair would join the team in England.

The Board Presidents XI squad which to set to take on South Africa A in a three-day warm-up match in Belgaum from July 30,  was also named.

India squad (for the first three Tests): Virat Kohli (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, M Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Karun Nair, Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur.

Board President's XI:  Ishan Kishan (c & wk), RR Sanjay, AR Easwaran, Dhruv Shorey, Anmolpreet Singh, Ricky Bhui, Jalaj Saxena, Siddhesh Lad, Mihir Hirwani, DA Jadeja, Avesh Khan, Shivam Mavi, Ishan Porel and Atith Seth.
