Sydney, May 14 (IBNS) The Cricket Australia on Thursday said it has commission an independent review over the death of batsman Philip Hughes last year.

CA Chief Executive James Sutherland said it will be  chaired by Melbourne-based barrister David Curtain QC.

"It will focus on the cause and circumstances of Hughes’s death in November last year and will make recommendations for future tournaments, competitions, matches and official training sessions conducted under the auspices of CA," the CA said in a statement.

“When this (Phillip Hughes) tragedy happened, I said that it was a freak accident, but it was one freak accident too many,” Sutherland said in a statement.

“Never again do we want to see something like that happen on a cricket field," he said

“We have a deep responsibility and obligation to look into the events of that awful day to understand everything that occurred and then see what could be done to prevent a similar accident happening in the future,"; he said.

"It is about making sure that as a sport we are doing everything in our power to prevent an accident of this nature happening again,"  Sutherland said.

he world of cricket was shattered after the  demise of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes on Nov 27.

He was in coma for two days following a head injury sustained while playing in a Sheffield Shield game in Sydney against New South Wales. He was 25.

Hughes was batting on 63 when he was struck in the head by a bouncer from Sean Abbott. Hughes tried to regain his composure but fell face first to the ground and was taken to the hospital.
