Glenn Maxwell comes out to MS Dhoni's defence after netizens criticise him over slow innings

Vizag, Feb 25 (IBNS): Indian cricketer MS Dhoni might be facing criticisms from netizens for his 'slow innings' played during the first innings of the opening T20 match against Australia on Sunday, Glenn Maxwell came out in his rescue.

While the strategy left many scratching their heads, Australian cricketer Maxwell was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia website that it was "fair enough" for Dhoni to refuse to run at the end of the innings on a slow, low pitch.

"MS is obviously a world-class finisher and even he was finding it hard to hit the middle of the bat," Maxwell told the CA website after Australia pulled off a thrilling final-ball win.

"I think it was right of him to try and farm the strike and he hit a six in the last over," he said.

"He only hit one six and I think they only got seven runs off the over which shows how difficult it is," he said.

"If you're holding MS to one boundary in the last few overs it's a pretty good effort and also a sign of the conditions as well," he said.

MS Dhoni scored 29 runs off 37 balls.

India were defeated in the opening match by Australia by three wickets.
