Buenos Aires/Xinhua/UNI: Former Italy international striker Daniel Osvaldo has come out of retirement to play for Argentinian first division club Banfield, according to local media reports.

The Argentina-born 33-year-old agreed to a one year contract after meeting with head coach Julio Cesar Falcioni in Buenos Aires this week, local newspaper Clarin reported. He is expected to join his new teammates for their first training session of 2020 on Friday.

Oswaldo has not played competitively since retiring from football after a brief spell with Boca Juniors in early 2016.

Capped 14 times for Italy, Osvaldo's career has included spells at Fiorentina, Espanyol, Roma, Southampton, Juventus, Inter Milan and Porto.

Banfield are currently 16th in the 24-team Argentinian Superliga, which is in the midst of a summer recess. Osvaldo's first match for his new club is expected to be a home clash against Patronato on January 26.
