Saint-Denis, Jun 11 (IBNS): Playing their first match against Romania, Euro 2016 host France registered a victory by the thinnest of margin as a 89th minute goal from Dimitri Payet sealed the deal for them.

After a goal less first half encounter, Olivier Giroud of the Les Bleus opened the account for his team in the 57th minute.

A penalty, following a foul in the 65th minute, helped the visitors equalise as Bogdan Stancu found the net.

Romania have never won their opening game in an Euro main draw.

Payet was adjudged the man of the match for his match winning effort.
