Nottingham, Aug 22 (IBNS):  Jos Buttler (106) and Ben Stokes  (62) tried to put up a strong resistance against India but Jasprit Bumrah's brilliant bowling took India closer to victory at the end of the fourth day of the third Test match here on Tuesday.

Buttler made his maiden Test century and Stokes 62 in a fifth-wicket partnership of 169 which prevented the hosts from a massive downfall after it was initially reduced to 4-62.

Bumrah picked up the wicket of Buttler which again left England on the tough soil as the hosts lost four wickets for 10 runs to the second new ball.

At the end of the day, England scored 311 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

India need one more wicket to clinch the match and level the series 2-1.

England need to score 210 runs to win the match.

Bumrah bowled brilliantly and took five wickets in the innings.

Ishant Sharma shined initially and took the crucial wickets of openers Alastair Cook (17) and Keaton Jennings (13).
