Argentinian midfielder Montillo returns to Universidad de Chile

Santiago/Xinhua/UNI: Former Shandong Luneng midfielder Walter Montillo has returned to his former club Universidad de Chile on a one-year deal.

Montillo agreed to personal terms after Universidad triggered the 35-year-old's release clause with Argentina's Tigre, where he had been contracted until June 2021.

"Everyone who knows me knows that since August 2010, I have always said that my dream is to retire at the U," the Argentinian said on Instagram. "It's the club where my career took off and where I had my first two children."

"Many years have passed ... but the planets have finally aligned," he added.

Having begun his career with San Lorenzo in 2002-03, Montillo has had spells with Morelia, Universidad de Chile, Cruzeiro, Santos, Shandong Luneng, Botafogo and Tigre. He has been capped four times for Argentina's national team.

Universidad de Chile finished 14th in this year's 16-team Chilean first division championship, which was cut short by social unrest.
