Kolkata/IBNS: Director duo Nandita Roy-Shiboprosad Mukherjee's Bengali film Bohurupi has earned over Rs. 12 crore in the box office, becoming the highest grossing film in the era of Bengali Cinema Multiplex.

The film has earned Rs. 12.5 crore so far in the box office despite the entry of several Hindi films in the Kolkata market, as per reports on Friday.

Bohurupi, which was released on October 8 on the occasion of Durga Puja, features Abir Chatterjee, Koushani Mukherjee, Ritabhari Chakraborty and Shiboprosad Mukherjee in the lead.

The film is a gripping confrontation between a dacoit and a determined police officer.

While the dacoit is played by Shiboprosad, Abir features as a cop.

Speaking to IBNS earlier, Shiboprosad had shared how tough it is to release a film during Durga Puja as the struggle for hall sharing persists.

Shiboprosad had said, "It will always remain a challenge as we face difficulties when it comes to sharing halls. Moreover, two big Hindi films along with an equal number of south Indian movies are releasing around that time, so it's very difficult for us. I think we haven't come across too many of such a difficult Durga Puja release in recent years.

"So if our film doesn't perform well in the first three days (October 8-11) since its release, our shows may get hampered with the entry of the other language films in the market."
