Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan turns 42

Mumbai, Nov 1 (IBNS) Indian actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan turned 42 on Sunday.
Rai was born in 1973 to Krishnaraj, an Army biologist and Brinda Rai,a homemaker.
 
The Tulu beauty started her career with Iruvar, a 1997 released Tamil flick. Though she started off as a modest actor, Rai gained impetus after following her character in Sanjay Leela Bhanshali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The movie was a blockbuster and helped Rai collect her first Filmfare Award.
 
With passing years she gained grounds with movies such as Taal, Mohabbatein, Devdas and many more.
 
Rai's appearence as Binodini in late filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh's adaptation of Tagore's Chokher Bali is cited by many as the best till date in her career.
 
She is one of the few actresses who have courted both the Indian film industry and Hollywood with ease. Her enormous popularity have seen this leggy star appear in various renowned foreign talk shows.
 
Rai is also a regular in Cannes Film Festival. A gifted dancer, she has been a part of many stage shows.
 
A PETA India supporter, Rai endorses ethical treatment of animals and also acts as a UN Microcredit Spokesperson.
