Will fully support India to end terror: EU lawmakers after visiting Kashmir

| @indiablooms | Oct 30, 2019, at 12:40 pm

Srinagar/IBNS: After visiting Jammu and Kashmir, European MPs have said they "will fully support India in its efforts for lasting peace and ending terrorism", media reports said.

The MPs said this at a press conference where selected media persons were allowed.

A delegation of 20 odd MPs visited Jammu and Kashmir to assess the situation in the newly-formed Union Territory. This is the first international visit since the Centre abrogated Articles 370 and 35A to withdraw Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

The European MPs had meetings with the Army officials and were also taken on a ride on Dal Lake.

However, the opposition parties of the country have attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for allowing foreign delegates to visit Jammu and Kashmir while restricting the Indian parliamentarians.

Congress MP from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi, tweeted, "MPs from Europe are welcome to go on a guided tour of Jammu & #Kashmir while Indian MPs are banned & denied entry. There is something very wrong with that."

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had tweeted, "The European MPs were allowed to intervene in Jammu and Kashmir but our political leaders were sent back immediately after landing. This is a very unique nationalism."

CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury tweeted, "It is an affront to the Indian Parliament and its sovereignty, that while Indian MPs and political leadership are denied the freedom of visit the valley, those in the state not allowed to even step out of their homes, reportedly some “private visit” by foreign MPs is facilitated."
