WB: Mamata Banerjee's security cordon broken twice in a single day

Kolkata, July 10 (IBNS): An elderly man and a young cyclist broke the z-plus category security cordon made for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's motorcade at two different locations in Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar districts of north Bengal respectively on Tuesday, reports said.

A local farmer, Rajen Roy, broke the security layer at Goshala More in Jalpaiguri and met Mamata Banerjee when her convoy was passing by the area.

The man, who is a resident of nearby Paharpur area, also put forward a letter to the Chief Minister where he reportedly requested Mamata Banerjee to take adequate steps to solve water crisis at his locality.

The farmer had been detained by security personnel and was released after interrogation, local police said.

Meanwhile, hours after the incident, a young cyclist was allegedly beaten up by policemen for breaking Chief Minister's security cordon at Changrabandha in neighbouring Cooch Behar district, according to reports.

Police officials said that the youth was caught after he tried to break the security cordon and entered a restricted corridor which was made for Mamata Banerjee's motorcade.

Following the incident, locals staged agitation against the police action and a huge police force was deployed to the scene to bring the situation under control.

Local police officials claimed that cops did not assault the cyclist.

However, two incidents of security cordon break in a single day have questioned the security arrangements for Mamata Banerjee, who is currently on a four-day administrative trip in north Bengal.

"We are looking into the matter and security officers, who were in charge at those locations, will be asked about the incidents," a senior official of state police told IBNS.
