Veteran leader Sanjay Jha suspended by Congress for 'anti-party activities.'

Mumbai/IBNS: The Maharashtra unit of Congress suspended veteran leader Sanjay Jha with immediate effect for 'anti-party activities.'

In a statement, the party wrote: "Sanjay Jha has been suspended from the Congress Party with immediate effect for anti-party activities and breach of discipline."

According to reports, Sanjay Jha was suspended from the party shortly after he appeared on NDTV's "Left, Right and Centre" show.

"Nothing surprises me. What are the anti-party activities I indulged in? The least the Congress could have done was to approach me," Jha told media in his immediate reaction to the suspension.

"We are showing an extremely intolerant culture," he said, adding, "I've always maintained that until we get our internal democracy right we will struggle to become a serious political contestant to the BJP."

Last month, he was also removed as Congress spokesperson after a critical writeup about his party.

The move comes on a day when the Congress in Rajasthan sacked Deputy Chief Minister and state unit chief Sachin Pilot from his positions after the rebel lawmaker skipped the meeting of party MLAs for the second time.

The party passed a resolution for their removal at Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting in the state capital after removing Sachin Pilot from his currently held positions in Rajasthan.

Ironically in a reaction to the move, Sanjay Jha earlier in the day tweeted: "First, Jyotiraditya Scindia. Now, Sachin Pilot. Who next? Watch this space!"

Being critical of his party further, Jha wrote: "For five years Sachin Pilot gave his blood, tears, toil and sweat for the Congress party between 2013-18. The Congress came back from a wretched 21 seats to 100. We just gave him a performance bonus. We are so meritocratic. We are so transparent."

"The new Congress worries me," he added.

The differences also seem to widen a gap inside the Congress party itself.

Earlier in a similar tone, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal wrote: "Worried for our party. Will we wake up only after the horses  have bolted from our stables?"

The Congress top leadership had been criticised for their inability to protect the party's fall in Madhya Pradesh earlier this year by not addressing Jyotiraditya Scindia's dejection.

Once again, the party's leadership has been questioned after its Rajasthan unit sacked Sachin Pilot, who was a chief architect behind the Congress win in the state assembly election in 2018.
