Vande Bharat Mission: Air India flight carrying 121 stranded Indians from US lands at RGIA

Hyderabad/UNI: As part of the biggest off-shore evacuation drive of Indian Citizens under the Government of India’s Vande Bharat Mission, amid the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, an Air India flight carrying 121 stranded Indian Nationals from US landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad near here early on Saturday.

This was the eighth flight carrying Indians which landed at RGIA under Vande Bharat mission, aimed at evacuation of stranded Indians from various countries, RGIA said in a release here.

The Indian Nationals reached Hyderabad via Delhi at around 0314 hours in the Air India flight AI 1839, which departed from Newark in USA.

To facilitate the arriving passengers and aircraft crew, International arrivals at the RGIA have been sanitised and fumigated.

All arriving passengers and aircraft crew were brought out from the aircraft in a batch of 20-25 persons each.

Each passenger/crew was screened by thermal cameras under the supervision of the Airport Health Officials (APHO) as per the directives of the Health Ministry.

On May 9 , the RGIA had handled its first Vande Bharat repatriation flight (AI 988) from Kuwait, that carried 163 Indian citizens.

Till May 16, 2020, the RGIA had handled 12 departures evacuation flights serving close to 1000 foreign nationals who were repatriated by various special relief flights from Hyderabad to the countries like UK, UAE, US, Kenya and Germany.
