Uttar Pradesh: One held, liquor worth Rs 40 lakh recovered in Lucknow

Lucknow, Nov 5 (UNI) A liquor peddler was arrested and 750 boxes of liquor recovered from his possession in the Para area here, police said on Tuesday.
The cost of the impounded liquor is estimated to be Rs 40 lakh.

STF's Senior Superintendent of Police Rajeev Narayan Mishra here said that information was received, early Tuesday morning, that some members of a gang peddling illicit liquor from Haryana are proceeding towards Kushinagar with a liquor consignment.

Acting on the tip-off, an STF team reached the spot and took the driver of a mini-truck, stationed near Ring Road 'nahar' culvert, into custody.

When the mini-truck was searched, 750 boxes of country-made liquor was recovered from it. Praveen, the driver of the vehicle who hails from Hisar (Haryana) has been arrested.

The SSP said that after making a false waybill of transporting children's cycles, the liquor peddlers used to smuggle alcohol. The waybill had been prepared to transport kids' cycles from Ludhiana to Patna.

Mishra said that the arrested peddler has been handed over to the local police and further action will be taken by the Para police.
