Uttar Pradesh: Five die, several injured as bus overturns in Mirzapur

Five people, including two women and a child, died and several others were injured when a private bus overturned in Sant Nagar area of Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, police sources said.

Police sources said the bus left Pili Kothi bus stand in the morning.

"Near Dadri barrage the bus carrying more than 27 passengers overturned. It is being said the driver lost control over the vehicle due to potholes on the road," they said.

Police sources said with the help of the local residents the police took out the injured and took them to Halia primary health center.

"Mnita Matwar (25), Mamta (26), Abhishek (2), Satya Narain (40) and Vishnu (10) were declared dead at the PHC," they said.

Police said more than 20 injured, including Ashish, Geeta Devi, Manoj, Kavita, Vivek, Savita Devi, Sangeeta Devi, Sarita Devi, Ramrati, Sapna, Anish Kumar and Anshika, have been referred to divisional hospital.

District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan and Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinandan visited the hospital and inquired about the health of the injured.

They directed the hospital staff to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
