Lucknow/UNI: Festival of colour, Holi is being celebrated in Uttar Pradesh on Monday with much traditional fervor and gaiety though the revellers take all precautions due to the threatening second strain of Covid-19.

Children and elders sprayed colour and gulal on each other and offered sweets, special prepared gujiyas and papar. While wishing 'Happy Holi' people embraced each other to convey their best wishes.

However, most of the Holi-Milan programmes by the political parties and their leaders have been cancelled, due to the Coronavirus and government strict approach on such public functions.

In several areas, people were witnessed playing Holi while wearing masks and several avoided embracing each other to greet each other at the festival.

The festival is being celebrated in a peaceful manner and there is no incident of any untoward incident from anywhere said Director General of Police H C Awasthi here.

UP governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have wished the people of the state on the festival .

Adityanath, who is in Gorakhpur, worshipped at the Gorakhnath temple this morning and exchanged greetings with the people.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav along with his entire family were in their native Saifai in Etawah district to celebrate the Holi with flowers.

BSP President Mayawati and UP BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh have also wished the people of the state on the festival.

In Lucknow, a special Holi procession was brought out in the old Chowk area where politicians and others joined to celebrate the festival.

The celebration of Holi kicked off last evening with Holika Dahan.
