Sant Kabir Nagar (UP)/UNI: A man threw his three daughters into Ghagra river from Birhar bridge here on Monday morning, police sources said.

After getting the information police reached the spot and deployed SDRF sleuths and local divers to fish out the bodies, sources said.

Police have arrested the father along with one of his friends who helped him in the act.

The main accused, Sarfraz (32), a native of Dihwa village under Dhanghata police station, had returned from Mumbai 20 days back along with his wife and four daughters.

He was working as a truck driver in Mumbai but due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, he returned to his village. The accused was also said to be an alcoholic.

The man hurled his daughters into the river after a fight with his wife.

Police said that the girls thrown in the river have been identified as Sana (7), Saba (4) and Sama (2).

However, his fourth daughter--seven-month-old baby-- escaped the deadly fate.
