Srinagar/IBNS: Srinagar Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu, Tuesday said the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) will be organising month-long events to celebrate the UNESCO tag given to Srinagar under the Crafts and Folk Arts category.

Srinagar is known for its traditional crafts and folk art which includes Pashmina shawls, wood carving, paper mache, kani shawl, sozni, khatamband and hand knotted carpets.

The Mayor said the inclusion of Srinagar in the creative city network has paved a way to represent Kashmir's handicrafts on the global platform.

“We have achieved this milestone after a lot of hard work and dedication. We have been pursuing this since 2018 and finally after the hard work and serious efforts by SMC Commissioner and other officers concerned, we have finally achieved the milestone. It is the biggest day for the whole of Srinagar,” Mattu said.
