Turban case: West Bengal Guv Dhankhar asks CM to withdraw case against Balvinder Singh

Kolkata/UNI:  Asserting that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should send human rights and Rule of Law friendly signals, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday urged her to withdraw the case against Balvinder Singh whose turban was allegedly removed by the West Bengal Police.

'Time ⁦@MamataOfficial 2 relook #BalvindraSingh implication ⁦@WBPolice

⁩ & engage in rectification rather than justification,' Dhankhar tweeted. 'Already Balvindra poster boy for blatant Human Right violations in WB 'Must appreciate Extensive Outrage at the ill treatment #BalvindraSingh,' the governor added.

Singh was allegedly manhandled and his turban removed by the West Bengal Police during a BJP march in Howrah last Thursday. He was later arrested on the charges of carrying a firearm illegally.

A nation-wide outrage erupted over what may said "disrespect" for the Sikh headgear.

Even cricketer Harbhajan Singh too had spoken out against it.
