Tripura violence: Supreme Court seeks detailed security plan for civic polls from govt
New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court has sought a detailed security plan from Tripura govt for free and fair local civic polls in the backdrop of the violence in the state.
The matter will be heard at 12:45 pm on Tuesday.
The court is hearing the contempt petition filed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding deterioration of law and order in Tripura ahead of civic body elections in the northeast state.
The TMC had mentioned the matter before the Supreme Court on Monday and alleged that the violence against its party workers is still continuing and also many false cases are being filed by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
Justice Dr Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachud led bench of the apex court said it will hear the matter on Tuesday.
Justice Chandrachud, during the special mention, initially said that the bench would hear the matter on Nov 25, but the counsel for the petitioner again pleaded that the situation of violence in the state is becoming more serious, hence the matter will be heard from Nov 25.
After that, considering the petition of the petitioner again, the top court directed to list it for hearing on Tuesday.
