Agartala/UNI:Leaders of all political parties including Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Leader of the opposition Manik Sarkar and social activists have
been invited by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a consultation meeting on the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) at his residence tonight.

The chief minister left for Delhi last night to attend the meeting while Congress has decided to give it a miss. However, CPI (M) has not yet decided whether Manik Sarkar and CPI (M) state secretary Goutam Das would attend the meeting.

Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has already left for Delhi to take part in the discussion.

Lok Sabha MP Rabati Tripura, Tribal Welfare Minster and IPFT general secretary Mevar Kumar Jamatia, Revenue Minister and IPFT president N C Debbarma, BJP
MLA Dhananjoy Tripura, tribal leader Animesh Debbarma, former CPI (M) MP Jitendra Chaudhury, Chittarajan Debbarma, Sonacharan Debbarma, Pratal Kanya Jamatia, Antony Debbarma, Biswajit Kalai and Sunil Debbarma are expected to attend the meeting.

Although the ruling BJP is yet to clear its stand over the CAB, the Chief Minister had strongly supported the Centre's move in favour of the Bill that sparked
outrage among the people.

Tripura state unit Congress vice-president Pijush Biswas said Congress would continue to oppose the CAB as it will be detrimental to the peace and amity in the state. The people of the country will never accept politics in the name of religion, he had averred.

"We urge the Union Minister to abandon the Bill for the greater interest of the country," he said.while declaring Congress' stand.
