Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra claims BSF men posted for her protection, asks for removal

New Delhi/IBNS: Trinamool Congress parliamentarian Mahua Moitra on Saturday claimed three Border Security Force (BSF) men were posted outside her residence for her protection, something which she didn't ask for.

Moitra, a strong critic of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, took to Twitter to appeal to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the removal of the protection.

"3 BSF men w/ assault rifles outside my home. Say they are from Barakhamba Road police station for my “protection”. Still outside my home. Am a free citizen of India - people will protect me. Request Honb’le HM AmitShah Ji & HMO India to remove immediately," the Lok Sabha MP from West Bengal's Krishnanagar tweeted.

Moitra, who is known for her fiery speeches in Parliament, just days ago launched scathing attacks on the central government on a number of issues including the farmers' protests.

Speaking in Parliament recently, Moitra said stirring controversy, "The sacred cow that was the judiciary is no longer sacred. It stopped being sacred day a sitting CJI was accused of sexual harassment, presided over own trial, cleared himself & accepted a nomination to  Upper House within 3 months of retirement replete with Z+ security cover."

After the government decided not to move a privilege motion against the Trinamool MP, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader PP Chowdhary, who is also a former Minister of State for Law, put in the request for privilege motion.

Moitra, who became the Lok Sabha MP in 2019 three years after getting elected to the West Bengal assembly, is seen as a key member of Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool, which will face a tough contest with the BJP in the upcoming state polls.
