TMC would be back in power in 2021, BJP has no chance: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata/IBNS: Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister on Tuesday said her party will be voted to power once again in the 2021 Assembly elections and the BJP should stop dreaming of being at the helm in the state.

“Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, they (BJP leaders) had made a comment — ‘2019 ey half, 2021 ey saaf’ (Half the number of seats by 2019, a complete washout by 2021). I would like to tell them that it is the Trinamool Congress that is going to form the next government in Bengal," she was quoted as saying by News18.

Attacking BJP, Banerjee said her party will resume power in the state without "distorting history, without creating a division among people and without playing the religious card.", the accusations she had been making against the saffron party since it showed signs of increasing influence in the state.

Without naming BJP, she told a gathering that those dreaming of throwing her out of power will face the anger of the voters and pay for their wrong deeds while reiterating that she will be back among the people after forming the next government in the state.

She also hit out at BJP over alleged WhatsApp snooping, saying the TMC will fight against privacy breach, and oppose closure of banks while referring to recent bank mergers by the Centre.

Banerjee's comments come in the wake of Assembly elections in Gujrat and  Maharashtra where the BJP failed to get majority on its own and is depending on allies to form governments.

In the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, BJP had won 18 seats only 4 less than TMC's 22 in West Bengal which has 42 seats in the lower house of the Parliament.
