Timing of ending PDP-BJP alliance surprised me: Omar Abdullah

"I am not surprised by the decision. The timing has taken me by surprise. I expected it later this year," Omar told media after meeting Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra.

He said his party wants to see people getting a chance to elect the next government in the state.

"We are not celebrating this moment. People should be given a chance to decide the future government of the state soon," he said.

"We will want to see that a proper election is held. We will accept the people's mandate," he said.

Omar said he will want to see the situation in Jammu and Kashmir to be normal again.

"I met J&K Governor N. N. Vohra and conveyed to him that National Conference had no mandate in 2014 and no such mandate now. We will not form government with anyone. No one approached us and we will approach no one," Omar said.

Mehbooba Mufti resigns:

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday resigned after the BJP broke its alliance with her People's Democratic Party (PDP) and pulled out of the ruling coalition, media reports said.  

Mufti has called a meeting of her party ministers. She is also expected to speak to the media at 5 pm.

Earlier, BJP's Kashmir In-charge Ram Madhav told media that "it has become untenable for the BJP to continue with PDP."

BJP national president Amit Shah had earlier summoned BJP ministers from the state of Jammu and Kashmir to discuss the end of Ramzan ceasefire, that upset the saffron outfit's ally PDP, according to media reports.

The rift between the two parties- which ran the Jammu and Kashmir government- became prominent once again after the Centre decided to resume the anti-terror operations.

The PDP still maintains that the central government must reach out to the separatists to resolve the crisis in the valley.
