Supreme Court issues notice to Prashant Bhushan for tweeting against judiciary

New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a notice to advocate Prashant Bhushan seeking his response on why action should not be taken against him for levelling allegations against the judiciary in micro-blogging site Twitter, media reports said.

Bhushan wrote on Twitter last month, "When historians in future look back at the last 6 years to see how democracy has been destroyed in India even without a formal Emergency, they will particularly mark the role of the Supreme Court in this destruction, & more particularly the role of the last 4 CJIs".

The top court has also asked Twitter India as to why it didn't remove the tweet.

Twitter India (the Indian arm of the micro-blogging site), against whom a contempt proceeding has started, said it will convey the court's message to Twitter Inc.

The Supreme Court had taken contempt proceedings against Bhushan on its own.

The court will hear the matter next on Aug 5.
