Sunni waqf board to take legal view over 5 acres land : Chairman

The meeting of the Sunni waqf board has been convened here on November 26. The Supreme Court in its verdict on title suit dispute in Ayodhya had awarded the disputed 2.27 acres of land to the Mandir side and ordered that 5 acres land be given to the Sunni waqf board for the mosque in Ayodhya or nearby location.

Zufar Farooqui, chairman of the Sunni waqf board said here on Saturday that board will analyse the over 1,000 page judgement of the Supreme Court on Ayodhya issue during the meeting. Zufar Farooqui reiterated his stand that the board will not file review or curative petition against the Supreme Court judgement.

He however said since the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) represents all the sects of muslims and different schools of thought on Islam, the Sunni waqf board will give due importance to the opinion of the law board. The AIMPLB has voiced its serious disagreement over the judgement and has already announced to file a review petition in the Supreme Court against the apex court’s judgment. He said Maulana Arshad Madni heading the Jamait Ulma (Arshad madni faction) has also said the Sunni waqf board should not accept the five acres of land given by the Supreme Court.

``We have been flooded with the opinions and suggestions from the different sections of the Muslim community and some have suggested that along with the Babri mosque, educational institution should be set up on five acres of land. We will discuss all the suggestions during the meeting of the board on November 26," said Farooqui, adding "the board will take a final call only considering all the suggestions and opinion and the comments of the legal experts on the supreme court judgment’’.
