Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in India, likely to meet PM Modi today
New Delhi/IBNS: Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who is currently in India, is all set to meet PM Narendra Modi on Friday.
In his earlier tweet ahead of leaving for India, the President said he is looking forward to strengthening bilateral relations with Modi and his government.

This is the Sri Lankan leader's first overseas visit after assuming office recently.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa made an impressive mark in the Sri Lankan presidential polls in November.

He defeated nearest rival Sajith Premadasa by a margin of over 13 lakh votes to become the President of the Island Nation.
Modi had a telephonic conversation with the Sri Lankan leader following his victory.
Conveying the good wishes on behalf of the people of India and on his own behalf, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that under the able leadership of Rajapaksa the people of Sri Lanka will progress further on the path of peace and prosperity and fraternal, cultural, historical and civilisational ties between India and Sri Lanka will be further strengthened. The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to continue to work with the Government of Sri Lanka to these ends, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
