Spear Corps conducts 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' in Assam
Guwahati, Oct 2 (IBNS): Spear Corps organized a multitude of events on the theme of ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’, from Sept 16 to Oct 2 in the entire Corps Zone here.
Soldiers, civilians, housewives and children enthusiastically participated in all the activities that were planned to contribute towards this national cause.
Motivational lectures, symposiums, cleanliness drives and cycle rallies were organised to educate the population on the lasting harmful impact of plastic wastes on health and environment.
Guwahati based Defense PRO Lt Col P Khongsai said that, the event was organised by the troops of Spear Corps and a large number of civilian whole heartedly participated in this campaign.
"This resulted in the removal and safe disposal of plastic rubbish from habited and common areas making them environment friendly and plastic-free. The campaign grew in popularity since September 16 and a large number of civilian volunteers joined the movement which spread to villages and Bastis," Lt Col Khongsai said.
On culmination of this campaign, a mega event was organised on Wednesday at City Tower in Dimapur in coordination with the civil administration.
This event was attended by Nagaland minister Jacob Zhimomi, Station Commander of Rangapahar Military Station Albert Ezung and Kevekha Kevin Zehol, DC of Dimapur besides other civil and military officials.
The minister, while flagging off the event, exhorted people to shun plastic items and participate wholeheartedly in making the State and Dimapur plastic-free.
‘Swachtha Pledge’ was administered to all participants which were followed by the launch of a mass campaign to collect plastic waste.
Similar events were organised at Rangapahar and other military stations, wherein Army troops, civilians, families including school children took the pledge and participated in cleanliness drives.
All military stations of the Spear Corps have been declared as ‘Plastic Free Zones’ and sale and use of single-use plastic items have now been banned. This will go a long way in contributing towards a cleaner, greener and healthier environment.
