New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to people who opposed the imposition of Emergency in 1975 and said that the country will never forget their sacrifice.

In a tweet on the anniversary of the Emergency on June 25, 1975, the PM said, ''Exactly 45 years ago, on this day, Emergency was imposed in the country. I salute all those people who struggled and faced a lot of pain to defend the Democracy at that time. The country will never forget their sacrifice.''

PM Modi also posted on his Twitter account a clip of his ''Mann ki Baat'' radio address last year in which he had spoken about the Emergency era.

The Emergency was imposed on June 25, 1975 by the Congress government at the Centre headed by late Indira Gandhi.
