Mumbai: Actress Rhea Chakraborty, who was arrested in Mumbai by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) after three days of questioning by the agency in connection with the drug-related allegation surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput's death, has been sent to judicial custody till Sept 21.

A local court here also rejected her bail for her alleged role in the drugs angle in the case, UNI reported.

While rejecting the bail application, the court agreed with the submission made by the NCB that the investigation in the case is going on and her release on bail may hamper the ongoing investigation.

She was earlier produced in the court via video-conferencing, during which the prosecution NCB did not seek her custody and contended the court that she was interrogated by the investigators and can be remanded into judicial custody.

Following this, the court granted her judicial custody till September 21. Soon after that, the Bollywood actor moved a bail application.

Defence advocate Satishmane Shinde, while arguing the bail plea, contended the court that in the present case, her client is not required by the prosecution, while the two accused arrested in the same case were granted bail by the court, hence she should also be allowed to be released on bail, on the condition deem fit by the court.

While opposing the plea and also in the remand application NCB submitted that though her custody is not required by the investigators, the probe in the case is in progress and her release on bail will hamper the ongoing investigation.

The court was also told that Rhea knows more about the investigation mode of the NCB, as she was interrogated by them for three days, as more people who will be summoned in the case in future, will be alerted.

Her lawyer Satish Manshinde can go to the Sessions Court on Wednesday and seek bail once again.

Rhea was not sent to jail on Tuesday night because as per the jail manual, a woman cannot be sent to jail after sunset.

She was lodged in a cell in the NCB office.

After her arrest, she was taken to hospital for medical checkup, before being presented before the Magistrate for remand. A COVID-19 test was also done on her, which proved negative, reports UNI.

She was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under Sections 8 (C), 20(B), 27 (a), 28 and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Rhea's brother Showik and Sushant’s house manager Samuel Miranda, who were arrested by the NCB under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, have been remanded to NCB till Sept 9.

The NCB had also arrested Dipesh Sawant, the house helper of the late actor, in connection with the case.

NCB is the third central agency to join the probe into the death of Sushant, after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The NCB got into action after the Enforcement Directorate came across chats pertaining to drug consumption, procurement, usage and transportation in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

Sushant was found dead at his own flat in Mumbai's Bandra on Jun 14.
