PM Modi pays surprise visit to Hunar Haat at India Gate lawns, enjoys Litti Chokha and Kulhad Chai

The Prime Minister interacted with the participating artisans at the Haat and also witnessed the cultural programmes. He also savoured a plate of litti chokha from Bihar and had kulhad chai (tea).

More than 250 such stalls have been set up at India Gate lawns. Also, more than 50 per cent of the artisans taking part were women.

PM Modi later tweeted: "The colours and diversity of India on display...Spent a wonderful afternoon at''Hunar Haat'' on India Gate. It showcases the best of products including handicrafts, carpets, textiles and of course, delicious food! Do visit it."

"Hunar Haat" reflects the government's commitment to providing employment opportunities as well as preserving and promoting India’s indigenous traditional legacy, several of which are on the verge of extinction, an official release here said.

He also visted various stalls and tweeted a video in which he is seen admiring a work of art illustrating national integration.

Modi also tried his hand on music and metinteracted with a physically challenged artist who presented him his potrait.

This year's theme is ‘Kaushal ko Kaam’. About 300,000 master artisans, craftsmen and culinary experts have been provided employment and employment opportunities through Hunar Haat in the past three years, including many women artisans.
