New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI/IBNS) The BJP Central Election Committee held a meeting here on Sunday to finalise its candidates for the assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was felicitated at the start of the meeting.

Modi, party chief Amit Shah and working president J P Nadda among others deliberated at length with other party colleagues and state leaders to finalise names of candidates.

Some names of candidates could be announced on Monday, sources said.

Apparently, BJP has decided to part away with 124-125 seats to its ally Shiv Sena in Maharashtra and in all likelihood, Sena's new youth face Aditya Thackeray will contest from Worli in Mumbai.

Another party leader for Maharashtra polls, final announcement of candidates and seat share formula may be made on October 1.

Earlier, Sena had insisted for 50:50 seat share among 288 assembly seats - a demand that has been turned down by the BJP.

The last day for filing of nomination is October 4.

In Haryana, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar may be again fielded from Karnal constituency.

Former Indian Hockey team captain Sandeep Singh, Olympic bronze medallist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt and woman grappler Babita Phogat recently joined the BJP giving a boost to the state's ruling party election campaign in Haryana.

BJP CEC also announced the names of candidates for by-polls in six assembly seats in Gujarat.
