At least 15 people died, and two others were injured when a tempo traveller hit a parked truck on the Bharat Mala Expressway in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on Sunday.

According to reports, the victims were returning to Jodhpur after visiting the Kolayat Temple.

The temple is located around 220 km away from Jodhpur.

The victims were residents of the Phalodi area in Jodhpur.

The injured were initially taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Jodhpur via a green corridor for advanced treatment, reported India Today.

Several people were reportedly trapped in the wreckage following the impact of the accident.

Police and local residents carried out the rescue operation.

“The bodies were stuck in the seats due to the force of the collision. We faced great difficulty in removing them,” Phalodi Police Station Officer Amanaram told Idnia Today.

Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma mourned the loss of lives in the tragedy and wrote on X: "The loss of life in the road accident in the Matoda area of Phalodi is deeply tragic and heartbreaking. My condolences are with the bereaved families."

"District administration officials have been instructed to ensure proper treatment for all the injured. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed souls and speedy recovery to the injured," Sharma said.
