Patna village among Bihar’s total 13 to be developed as ‘Ganga Gram’ in first phase

The villages selected to be developed include Pandark in Patna district and Parham under Jamalpur block in Munger district.

As per reports, Rs one crore (Rs 10 million) each will be spent on their proper development.

The Centre has announced to develop a total of 600 villages located on the banks of the Ganges across the country.

In the first phase, 200 villages will be developed, as per reports.

These villagers are set to be developed under the “Namami Gange” Programme.

Works related to the Ganga Grams will encompass comprehensive rural sanitation, development of water bodies and river ghats, construction/modernization of crematoria etc.

The main objectives of developing Ganga Gram (Model Village) is making those villages free from open defecation, abating direct discharge of untreated liquid wastewater from such villages into river Ganga, facilitating adequate infrastructure for crematoria, developing proper solid waste disposal facilities in order to avoid any pollution to river Ganga and promoting better sanitation practices in the villages through IEC activities.

According to a report of Press Information Bureau, based on the recommendations of the concerned local authorities, 206 villages having historic, cultural, tourist and/or religious importance have been selected in the first phase.

They include all 78 villages in Sahebganj district of Jharkhand and 128 villages from Uttarakhand, UP, West Bengal and Bihar (Uttarakhand-4, West Bengal-58, Uttar Pradesh-53, and Bihar-13).

As per the approved cabinet note of Namami Gange, a provision of Rs1750 Crores has been kept for rural sanitation scheme contemplated for improving sanitation and civic amenities in identified villages on the banks of River Ganga and to develop them as ‘Ganga Grams”.
