Over 73.44 lakh voters to decide fate of 345 candidates in second phase of Assam poll

Guwahati/IBNS: The stage is set for the second phase of the Assam assembly poll for 39 constituencies which will be held on April 1.

Over 73.44 lakh voters will decide the fate of 345 candidates including 26 female candidates in 14 election districts in the state.

Out of the total voters, 37,34,537 are male voters and 36,09,959 are female voters and 135 transgender voters and they will exercise their franchises in 10592 polling stations.

In the second phase of the poll, several prominent candidates are contesting including ministers of the Sarbananda Sonowal-led cabinet Parimal Suklabaidya (Dholai), Pijush Hazarika (Jagiroad), Bhabesh Kalita (Rangia), sitting MLAs Bijoy Malakar, Krishnendu Paul, Aminul Haque Laskar, Numal Momin, Mihir Kanti Shome, Gurujyoti Das, Rupak Sharma, Sibu Mishra and all of them are from BJP.
 

Apart from them, sitting Congress MLAs Kamalakhya Dey Purakayastha, Ilias Ali, sitting AIUDF MLAs Suzam Uddin Laskar, Nizam Uddin Choudhury, sitting BPF MLAs Rihon Daimary, Charan Boro, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, former president of Assam Sahitya Sabha Paramananda Rajbongshi, former NDFB leader Gobinda Basumutary, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal’s brother Sirajuddin Ajmal, former Congress minister Gautam Roy, Ajit Singh, Siddeque Ahmed are also contesting in the second phase of poll.

Dilip Kumar Paul who won the 2016 assembly election from the Silchar constituency as a BJP candidate is contesting in this election as an independent candidate in this election after denied the party ticket.

On the other hand, cabinet minister of the Sonowal-led government Sum Ronghang is contesting in this election as a Congress candidate.

The polling parties on Wednesday left for their respective polling stations and heavy security arrangements have been made.
