No India without Kashmir: Columnist Sunanda Vashisht at US Congressional hearing on human rights

Washington/IBNS: Backing the abrogation of Article 370 at the US Congressional hearing on human rights, columnist Sunanda Vashisht said there is no India without Jammu and Kashmir and no Kashmir without the country, media reports said.

Terming the abrogation of Article 370 as a step to restore human rights, Vashisht said as quoted by Times Now, "India is not just a 70-year-old identity, but a 5,000-year-old civilisation. There is no India without Kashmir, and no Kashmir without India."

Vashisht had also questioned the world leaders over their silence when Hindus were forced to flee the valley in 1990s.

She said it is imperative to bolster India in fighting insurgencies which will solve the human rights problem in the particular region, Times Now reported.

The Indian government led by Hindu nationalist party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Aug 5 this year scrapped Articles 370 and 35A which were used to provide special status to Jammu and Kashmir since Independence.

Prior to the abrogation, non-residents of Kashmir were even not allowed to buy immovable properties in the valley.
