NIA raids multiple locations in Tamil Nadu as part of its crackdown on IS inspired terror module
Nagapattinam/UNI: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday carried out simultaneous searches at multiple locations in Tamil Nadu, as part of its investigation into the Islamic State (IS) inspired terror module that was planning to carry out terrorist attacks in India with the intention of establishing Islamic rule.
The searches began this morning and was currently underway at two locations in Coimbatore district, Nagore in Nagapattinam district, Kayalpattinam in Thoothukudi district and Ilayankudi in Sivaganga, preliminary reports quoting police said.
The raids were conducted in the houses of persons, suspected to have links with some of the arrested persons in Tamil Nadu-based radical Islamic outfit ‘Ansarulla.’ The NIA officials have taken into custody one Mohammed Ajmal, after raiding his house at Nagore for questioning, the sources said.

The NIA registered case against 16 persons from Tamil Nadu, besides their associates on July 9, under Sections 120B, 121A and 122 of IPC, besides Sections 17, 18, 18-B, 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, based on credible information that the accused persons while being in India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), had conspired and conducted consequent preparations to wage war against the Government of India by forming the terrorist gang Ansarulla.
The accused persons and their associates owing allegiance to the proscribed terrorist organizations – ISIS/Daish, Al Qaida and Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) had also collected funds as part of preparations to carry out terrorist attacks in India, with the intention of establishing Islamic rule in the country.
The 16 accused, hailing from Nagapattinam, Madurai, Theni, Perambalur, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Chennai and Nagapattinam were arrested after subsequent raids in their houses in July.
It may be recalled that the NIA has busted an ‘ISIS Kerala-Tamil Nadu Module’ after the deadliest terror attacks in Colombo, by arresting six persons from Coimbatore on June 12.
The six arrested persons and their associates were plotting to kill Hindu leaders in Tamil Nadu and propagating the ideology of ISIS on social media with the intention of recruiting vulnerable youths for carrying out terrorist attacks in South India, especially Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
The prime accused Mohammed Azarudeen has been the leader of the module and has been maintaining the facebook page named “KhilafahGFX” and was
the facebook friend of Sri Lankan suicide bomber Maulvi Zahran bin Hashim, a radical Islamic preacher.
