Dhaka: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated people of Bangladesh on their 50th Independence Day and said both the nations have similar opportunities in trade and industry sectors.

" The next 25 years are crucial for both India and Bangladesh. Our heritage is shared, our growth is shared, our targets and opportunities are also shared," he said during an event.

Moving down memory lanes, Modi shared how he had performed Satyagraha in support of freedom of Bangladesh and was even sent into jail.

" The atrocities forced by the Pakistan Army disturbed all of us internally and moved us," he said.

Speaking on the cooperation and relationship shared between India and Bangladesh during COVID-19 pandemic challenge, he said: "During COVID too, both countries have worked in tandem. We helped in developing the SAARC COVID fund and in training of human resource."

"India is delighted that 'Made In India' vaccines are treating people of Bangladesh," he said.

He invited 50 entrepreneurs from Bangladesh to visit India.

"On the event of 50 years of Indo-Bangladesh partnership, I'd like to extend an invite to 50 entrepreneurs of Bangladesh," he said. "They should get associate with our innovation ecosystem and meet venture capitalists. We will learn from them and they will learn from us as well," he said.

Narendra Modi arrived in Dhaka for his visit to Bangladesh at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier in the day.

This is a crucial visit to celebrate Mujib Borsho- the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ; 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Bangladesh; and 50 years of Bangladesh’s war of liberation.

In a special gesture, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Ministers from her cabinet welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

A salute of 19 guns and Guard of honour were accorded to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
