New Delhi/UNI: Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ratan Lal Kataria said in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the government has decided to substantially increase the amount of scholarship for the students belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category and nearly four crore students now can avail this benefit.

While answering a supplementary question, Kataria said that till now a total sum of Rs 1,000 crore was given a scholarship to the SC/ST students, but now the government has decided to increase this sum substantially.

Kataria said efforts are being made to fill up all the reserved vacant posts at the Indian Institutes of Management.

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale said that the government is making efforts to increase the number of old age homes across the country and also upgrading the facilities at these homes.

He said that the government is improving the facilities for those patrons who come to stay at these homes only during the day time and go back to their homes during the night.
