Narendra Modi mourns death of Bengali cartoonist Narayan Debnath

New Delhi: Indian PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday mourned the death of noted Bengali cartoonist Narayan Debnath and said he brightened several lives through his works.

"Shri Narayan Debnath Ji brightened several lives through his works, cartoons and illustrations. His works reflected his intellectual prowess. The characters he created will remain eternally popular. Pained by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti," he tweeted.

Cartoonist Narayan Debnath, who has created several Bengali comics, passed away on Tuesday.

He was 97.

Debnath, who was suffering from prolonged illness, died at 10:15 am.

A Padma Shri Awardee, Debnath is credited for comics like 'Bantul The Great', 'Handa Bhonda', 'Nonte Phonte', 'Daanpite Khandu Aar Tar Chemical Dadu' et al.

He was admitted to hospital on Dec 24, 2021.

Debnath was on ventilation.
